SUVs Ahoy! Mitsubishi Pajero Stuck in Sea Needs a Helping Hand

Fortunately, an automobile stuck in sea is a very uncommon scenario. When it happens, though, it calls for a special solution. From what we understand, this incident appears to have taken place at St Ives Bay on the Atlantic coast of north-west Cornwall in the United Kingdom (we could be wrong about that; if we are, tell us in the comments) when a Mitsubishi Pajero owned by a rental boat company got stuck in the sea.

 

Pushing with your hands won't do any good in this situation, so the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) was called in to aid the driver with a special crawler that pulled out the SUV.

Koenigsegg CCX Hit 211 Mph On A Runway, Outpacing Mclaren's P1

Vmax200 in in England organizes events where those who care to show up with a supercar can run them down the two-mile runway at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. Evo attended the latest event, bringing an impressively green Lamborghini Aventador to test its girth and gaping vents against other precious metals like the McLaren P1 and F1, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Enzo, a Porsche Carrera GT and enough 911 Turbos to start a dealership. Speaking of those Porsches, nine of the top ten slots in the top speed competition are claimed by modified 911 Turbos.

A monochrome Swede ruled them all, though, a black-and-white Koenigsegg CCX setting fire to the speed trap run after run, hitting 211 miles per hour at its quickest. It was followed by, surprise, a 911 GT2 modified by 9E that did 210 mph. BBR Mazda MX-5 Turbo or TRD-Tuned Toyota GT86?

Both the Mazda MX-5 and Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S) suffer from having too little power, whichever one you go for. This is apparent whatever sporty car you climb out of before driving either of them, but as the EVO video posted below tries to illustrate, there’s no harm in trying to improve these cars to really make the best of their chassis.

First off, the Toyota can be had with a list of factory updates, in the form of a TRD kit. However, that does nothing to up the power and torque of the GT86, the car’s two main quibbles. It does address the grip problem brought about by the use of 17-inch Prius tires in the basic car by swapping them out for larger 18-inch forged rims with much better rubber.

Still not fast enough, but that’s where the MX-5, tuned by BBR, comes in with 70 hp more than the stock GT86, courtesy of a turbo kit. It’s a car that has been slightly neglected ever since the Toyobaru came out, but as the folloowing comparison illustrates, in this slightly-tuned guise, it’s actually a better choice (for the money).

Some people, including myself, may argue that comparing the budget Dacia Duster (which in the UK is not yet available in the facelifted version) with the more upmarket Mazda CX-5 and Nissan Qashqai is a little exaggerated, but the result of this review will no doubt surprise you.

The Dacia is deemed the best of the three SUVs off-road, but the worst on the road. Mat Watson describes it as archaic, but let’s not forget that it’s by far the cheapest of the three. Rich Kid Of Instagram' Victim Of Supercar Arsonists

A 19-year-old in the UK is smarting after the possibility that his prolific social media use may be at the heart of four family-owned supercars going up in flames in barely a week. Aleem Iqbal has thousands of followers on Twitter and Instagram paying attention to his frequent posts about the high-priced cars he's driving. He's even been featured on the Tumblr page Rich Kids of Instagram. It appears that some people might not be so smitten with him, though.

According to his Twitter profile, Iqbal owns Platinum Executive Travel, a luxury car rental company in the England, and UK newspaper The Telegraph claims the company is also owned by Iqbal's father. On June 6, cameras caught three hooded men setting fire to a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster leased by the company for a wedding. A few days later, two Audi R8 Spyders and a Bentley Continental Flying Spur from Platinum also got the torch, and two men were caught on camera setting the blaze. Nobody was hurt in either of the attacks, and the Aventador appeared to be repairable with the fire causing most damage to the passenger seat and dashboard. Police are still investigating both of the crimes.

According to The Telegraph, Iqbal believes that the arsons could have stemmed from jealousy towards him and his family's business. Regardless, setting fire to a bunch of cars that are likely insured isn't a great way to show displeasure.

UK Gets 750 out of 1,000 Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Limited Editions

Whereas U.S. consumers were scrambling to secure one out of 100 Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary editions, in the UK, the Japanese firm will offer 750 out of a global total of 1,000 individually numbered examples units, beginning from August 1, with pricing to be announced soon.

The UK-bound 25th Anniversary Limited Edition MX-5 gets the same upgrades as the to the U.S.-specification car plus a unique 6.1-inch touch screen Mazda Navigation System exclusively engineered for the Japanese brand by Alpine. The system features 46 European country maps, 29 different languages, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, an integrated CD, radio and DVD player with a 50:50 split screen.

Based on the retractable hardtop model with the 2.0-liter engine, the limited edition comes with an assortment of additional exterior and interior features that are otherwise unavailable on other MX-5s, and most importantly, new engine components such as pistons, connecting rods and flywheel.

The only color available is the unique Soul Red Metallic paint finish, complemented by Brilliant Black door mirrors, A pillars and power-operated hardtop, 17-inch Dark Gunmetal alloy wheels, a rear diffuser and chrome exhaust trim.

Inside, the cabin is dressed in Light Stone leather trimmed upholstery with contrasting red stitching, hand-painted Dark Red dashboard decoration panel, Brilliant Black roll-over bar covers, alloy pedal set and 25th Anniversary stainless steel scuff plates.
